Reflecting on Destiny of Muslims of Crimea

In Kiev Took Place Scientific Conference in Islamic Studies Field

In the Islamic Cultural Centre of Kiev took place a conference on the topic "Islamic Civilization: History and Present" with participation of leading experts in this field, young scholars of Islamic studies and representatives of state structures. The action was organized by the All-Ukrainian Social Organization "The Ukrainian Centre of Islamic Studies" and the All-Ukrainian Association of Social Organizations "Аlraid".

The aim of the organizers was analysis of historical features of formation and development of a Muslim civilization and its current state.

On the conference were invited agents of science, education and culture, representatives of public authorities, social organizations, People's Deputies and ambassadors of the Islamic countries.

According to the Muslim tradition, conference was opened by reading of the Holy Quran. Sheikh Imad Abu Ar-Rub, the Imam of the Islamic Cultural Centre, quoted the following ayat, "O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things)". (Quran, 49:13) — the evidence of the fact, that Muslims, following the command of the Almighty, are always open for the dialogue with representatives of other faiths and religions.

Ismail Kadi — the chairman of "Alraid", Suleyman Abu Diyab — the ambassador of Syria, Yu.Kochubey — the editor-in-chief of "Shidniy Svit" magazine, I.Maydan — the senior lecturer of Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine addressed to the gathered and the participants of the conference with their greetings.

During the conference were discussed cultural, economic, political aspects of functioning of Islamic civilization, questions of formation of the state policy taking into account interests of Muslims, problems of mutual understanding of Muslims and non-Muslims, prospects of development of Islam in Ukraine and Europe, after which started the rewarding ceremony of the winners of the IV All-Ukrainian Competition of Islamic Researches.

The head of The All-Ukrainian Centre of Islamic Studies N.Kirushko highly appreciated the level of the scientific works presented on the competition, having underlined that following the results of the IV competition it is possible to speak about the formation of scientific elite of the Ukrainian Islamic Studies that in the near future will allow to conduct broad scientific activity in this area.
