The weekly journal "Voice of Crimea" published the research proving the Tatar origin of the President of Ukraine, Victor Yanukovych.

"Root of the surname of Yanukovych is the Tatar. His deep roots are Tatar, those, who converted to Christianity and lived on the territory of Russia and Poland. His roots are in Belarus where the Lithuanian princes lodged Tatars. It is noticeable even from Yanukovych's anthropological type", is stated in the newspaper.

The first Tatars appeared on the territory of the Grand Lithuanian Duchy in the XIV-th century, they were soldiers of the Khan Tohtamysh — natives of the Black Sea Coast and of the Crimean peninsula. "Having suffered from civil strifes in the Golden Horde, they asked for a political asylum the Lithuanian prince Vitovt. He hospitably received the Tatars, took them on his military service, allocated good lands in Belarus - Vilenshchina and Minshchina", the author of the article narrates.

He notices that in the list of male Tatar names there is a name of Yangilde that means "The soul came" (in the meaning of "the child was born"). Dialect variants of this name are Yanay, Yanysh, Yanuk.

The surname of Yanukovych, as it states "The Voice of Crimea", belonged to one of Lithuanian Tatars of Yanuk, and its carriers were inhabitants of "small szlachta torture chamber, and nowadays the village of Yanuki of Dokshitsky area". From this settlement even before revolution moved the grandfather of the Present of Ukraine who many years "traveled about in search of earning, until he settled in Donbass".
