Activists of Voluntary Movement Mariam and volunteers from Kyiv Islamic Cultural Centre along with their friends (doctors and nurses from VERUM Clinic and many others) have once again visited pupils from Foster home in Korostyshiv and Baby Orphanage from Novohrad-Volyns’kyi (Zhytomyr Region). Along with the adults, their children also joined, which was very important, for the pupils of the foster home should not be limited in their communication only within the borders of that children’s institution.

The guests not only brought everything necessary according to the lists approved by both Administrations (including medical supplies, fruit, dried fruit, grits, sunflower oil, and household chemicals like laundry detergent, soap, shampoo, cleaning and beauty products; along with clothing and footwear, pans, disinfectants, toys, craft materials, books, diesel oil and gas for grass-mowers and other equipment), but also held master-classes, presentations, games, sweet buffet and great mood.

By the way, pupils from the Foster Home also made a pleasant surprize: they exposed self-made welcoming banner with logo of Voluntary Movement Mariam on it right near the entrance.

Azeez the cook taught the children how to cook manty (oriental meat-stuffed dumplings), Alina and Muhammad showed how to make cupcakes and decorate them; hairstylist Anna braided the girls’ hair and cut the boys’ hair; Antonina and her friends demonstrated interesting scientific experiments; Victoria held a master-class in crafts; and young Muslim men went to play football with the older pupils.

A visit by Zhytomyr Region Patrol Police officers only added to vivid impressions as they told the kids about the basics of personal safety and about their job.

Both kids and adults really enjoyed that interesting day!

Muslim Women Gain to Help Three Orphans Suffering from a Cerebral Spastic Infantile Paralysis to Get Back on their Feet

Nowadays, news sites do not keep up with social networks, where information appears much faster and spreads with even higher speed than in the media. And in addition, very few newspapers, TV and radio, which spend its time looking for an advertiser, give airtime and space in their pages to such topics as mercy, charity, help to destitute people. Social networks whereas write about really important for people things that come home to them — and authors of publications are not guided by commercial benefit, expressing gratitude and admiration for those unselfish, who just aim to bring at least a little good into the world.

As an example, on June 31, the charitable organization, posted on its Facebook page “... Post of immense gratitude to our volunteers who put off all their things and found the time, strength and desire to help the disabled kids in specialized children’s house of Boyarka!”. Among the names of volunteers, who were thanked, was the name of Muslim, Mariia Abdullah, who represented the women's NGO "Maryam".

The "headquarters" of Social Organization "Maryam", which has made a lot of good deeds, is located in the women's department at Kyiv Islamic Cultural Centre. An extensive list of directions of charitable activity was filled up with regular relief for wards from orphanages a little over six months away, when volunteers responded to the call of the public initiative "Vartі Uvahy".

The women of "Maryam" had helped destitute orphans before, but since that remarkable call (which was reported by Islam in Ukraine and other Ukrainian media — including Voskresіnnya. Jyve radіo), activists have decided to visit orphans regularly. They not only announced about that decision, but almost every weekend go to the one of the orphanages, bring goodies — treat and clothes, stationery and toys, necessary medicines and hygiene products. They bring to the children themselves, their time, their hands, their hearts, and a desire to share warmth and care with helpless kids.

The Muslim women of "Maryam" pay particular attention to several kids suffer from health problems (e.g., cerebral spastic infantile paralysis), and try to do all their best to give a chance to heal to at least some of the kids.

Therefore, Andriusha from the orphanage of Novohrad Volynskyi as well as Zhenya and Andriusha from Boyarka know: "Ladies" will come to them again on weekend, bring delicacies, and, most importantly, make their long and busy day: they will help to exercise the muscles, do the massage, learn to walk and to run walkers, toy cars, bicycles, as well as they will rock the kids on the swings and talk with them – as the children lack all of this!

Last Sunday, after returning from orphanages, the women of the Social Organization "Maryam" met and had a tea together with their like-minded – women-volunteers, who combine efforts for a common good cause.

Olga Badurashvili (dreaming of creating community “Dobri spravy”), Kseniia Voloshyna and Olexandra Skladana (help privately) told to our correspondent that they met with the women from "Maryam" during the call together with “Vartі Uvahy” to orphanages of Kyiv oblast. Olga recognized that she is not surprised that eagerness to help the children brought together women of different nationalities, religions and ages, but it's amazing how much the state of the children improved, whom Muslim women care of!

Sabrin Ashur (Organization "Maryam") confirmed that, indeed, Muslim women’s efforts had its effect, the kids, who were non-contact six months ago and did not react to neither what was going on, nor any speech, now express emotions and react adequately to stimulus.

During recent visits —such as on May 15 —the Muslim women together with the members of the initiative "Vartі Uvahy" took again the medicines, diapers, pots, laundry detergents to the amount of 4.5 thousand hryvnas to the children's institutions.

According to Alraid, the children from boarding school of Korostyshiv welcomed them like their relatives: they vied with each other in welcoming, helped to unload the carloads, shared news and asked questions.

— The volunteers carried out several workshops: both children and adults were completely delighted with balloon twisting; girls with long hair appreciated braiding; felting woolen trinkets and earrings — is a master class, which gathered, to the surprise of the organizers, more ... boys, — says the publication. — But what beautiful trinkets they have made! It was very sorry to leave. The Muslim women promised that the next time they would come for the whole day.

The next destination was the orphanage in Novohrad Volynskyi (there live orphans from birth to 6 years). Activists managed to visit all groups of inmates of that children’s home. Women brought the necessary medicines to two boys, Yura and Mykyta, for undergoing the rehabilitation course by Bersenev. The kids noticeably livened up, compared to the last time when the volunteers took them to the clinic: they became more active, playful, smiling.

Next weekend, on May 22, the women went to Boyarka. They brought the medicines to the wards, had a good time with kids, and helped them to exercise the muscles during rehabilitation. The members of the volunteer movement "Maryam" thanked everyone on their page, who donated funds for the visit, made it possible, and the women accounted for every penny, which they spent.
And one of the kids, Andrei, due to the collected by volunteers money, now is undergoing rehabilitation. Mariia Abdallah wrote about this on her page on the social network Facebook.

— Andriusha, our hero, came to Kyiv for undergoing the rehabilitation course at the clinic of Bersenev ... He goes though the courses of massage face+ articulation, body and back massages, as well as metameric injections. All procedures are very painful, but the kid is amazingly patient. Only injections upset him very much. But God grant that the treatment would help him and the kid’s live would change even for a little bit. The nursemaid and Andriusha live near Lukyanivska station, and the clinic is situated at Lviv square. Muslim women appeal to all indifferent, assisted from time to time in collecting funds for the rehabilitation and relief for children, with a proposal to make these contributions regular, noting that for the present day, those, who support the organization, are about two hundred people:

— If everyone will undertake to transfer for children 10 UAH per week (40-50 UAH per month, almost everyone can do this), within a week we would collect about 2000 UAH (8000 UAH per month). This amount will allow paying freer for the rehabilitation courses, medicines and so on.

Muslims joined the descent of kindness

It took about two weeks for the Women’s Social Organisation activists to collect clothes, footwear, money donations, provision and household appliances in order to bring them to pupils of two boarding schools and one baby orphanage. And on November 7, four fully packed cars left the Kyiv ICC yard to join the caravan of cars of other participants of the charity project "Varti Uvagy" (Ukr. "Worth Attention") and deliver all the necessary goods, such as clothing, footwear, provision, medications, diapers, two TV-sets and two DVDs, and a gas chainsaw (for fuelwood cutting).

The volunteers visited three children’s facilities, namely one in Korostyshiv, one in Kmytiv, one in Novohrad-Volynskiy. Children aged 5 to 18 are maintained at the first two of them, and from birth to 5 — in the last one. They brought presents and a sweet buffet, and held some master-classes on quilling, henna, felting for the girls, while the men played basketball and other sports games with the boys, as the weather has been fortunately fine.

Each facility has its own approach to raising children. In Korostyshiv, for instance, the director treats his pupils as his good friends, trying to find and promote some strong sides of each person that may help them in their further life. It’s a little different in Kmytiv, where more attention is paid to discipline. But, of course, every child dreams of a home, a family, of loving parents, and usual things are like a little fest for them. For instance, the volunteers hardly held back their tears when they treated the kids with candies and heard their happy voices: "Oh my! Candies! It’s a fortune!"

They came to the baby orphanage in the late afternoon when it was already getting dark, but just on time to meet the little ones waking up from their afternoon nap. Kids who just have enough sleep were full of energy, hugged the guests, asked uppy, and wanted the guests to play with them. They didn’t let the visitors go for a very long time, asking them "to play some more".

According to Ms. Maryam Abdallah, who was one of the initiators of joining the benefit, that trip allowed the Muslims to see the other side of orphans’ lives: "I strongly wish that this initiative is continued, for we want to give those children more warmth and comfort and care and joy. I want to express my greatest gratitude for the facilitators of the trip, Ms. Elena Manuilova and Mr. Vlad Rol-Shiliaev and everyone who has been with us on that day!"

AUASO “Alraid” Holds Summer Recreational Camps With Cultural Program

During the whole month of June AUASO “Alraid” holds summer recreational camps with cultural program. This includes, first of all, recreational facilities for orphans, who checked in a Crimean recreation and retreat center on June, the first.

Besides that, summer camps and seminars for children will be held in “Alraid” Islamic Cultural Centres.

Helping Orphans

“Alraid” has taken more than 1800 orphans under it’s wing, supported by both charitable organisations and private sponsors from different countries. These children originate from different regions of Ukraine, mostly from Crimea.

The Association not only pays quarterly aid to the families taking care of orphans. It also provides other types of support promoting their breeding within Islamic values in the atmosphere of love and care, encouraging them to self-development and gaining knowledge.

Annual organizing of Summer recreational camps in Crimea is one of the focus areas in helping orphans. Such camps are the place where young Muslims can relax and have some rest on the seaside, meet their peers of the same religion from other parts of the country and, of course, deepen their religious knowledge.

However, the “Alraid” effort is not confined to taking care of only Muslim orphans. The Association also helps orphan asylums boarding schools regardless the confession of their pupils.

“Alraid” and “Dytynstvo” signing cooperation agreement

It was on April 22 that the chairman of the All-Ukrainian Association of Social Organizations “Alraid” and Mrs. Tatiyana Suchkova, director of the All-Ukrainian Public Organization “Dytynstvo” (“Childhood”) signed cooperation agreement for implementing social programs and projects on creating favorable conditions for children’s artistic work and encouraging young talents through implementing the children’s social project “Festival of children’s dreams”.

Both public entities pledged to support each other in extending the dialogue of religions and cultures, understanding, tolerance, and in raising local communities’ concern about issues related with protection of children’s rights.

The agreement lays the framework for both “Alraid” and “Dytynstvo” for exchanging information and other assistance and support, to propagate universal human values, healthy way of life, to foster the morality in future citizens, to improve social protection of children, including orphans and children devoid of parents’ care.
