Crimean Youth Helps The Peninsula’s Mosques

On November 9 a group of volunteers from the All-Crimean social organisation “Emel” arrived at a cleanup at the Gvardeyskoye village mosque construction site. Besides the cleanup itself, the youth strengthened the existing basement of the future mosque.

It’s not the first time the “Emel” members arrange events like this. This organisation is engaged in various activities, namely cultural and educational (they run free sunday school of Crimean tatar and Arabic at the “Alraid” Islamic Cultural Centre, facilitate discussions and intellectual games). Besides, they arrange annual cleanups and inspire their fellow countrymen to do the same.

“We often have to take our own transport to get to the place of a cleanup, often in distant Crimean villages, - but still we find enthusiasts willing to participate,” Mr. Muslim Dervishev, head of “Emel”, says.

According to him, the “Emel” activists volunteered to help as soon as they learned there was a mosque being built; moreover, the village people are building it at their own cost.

The Youth Voted For Nikah

About 50 young people took part in the seminar on peculiarities of nikah and premarital relations in Islam. It was the social organisation “Emel” who facilitated this event at the Crimean Islamic Cultural Centre.

“We wanted to hold a seminar, and we used social network to find out which topic is the most interesting for our youth. And the youth voted for nikah, so we see this is a topical issue for them,” — said Mr. Muslim Dervishev, the Head of “Emel”.

They invited Shaikh Saitqadr Ibrahimov for a qualified consultation on the peculiarities of creating the family within Islamic tradition. It took more than two hours for the Shaikh to describe the rules regulating relations between young men and women before marriage, and also in Shariah marital regulations, answering numerous questions.

There was plenty, as the ballot allowed the facilitators to gather targeted audience.

“Me, personally, really enjoyed the event,” — one of the participants, Ibraim Umerov, said. — “The seminar was interesting and useful, and I think I’ll come next time whatever the topic is.”

The topic, however, is yet a mystery for the facilitators themselves: “We are very likely to hold another questionnaire among the young people to reveal the topics-on-demand,” — Mr. Dervishev said. — “We are happy that young Crimean tatar of both sexes are show their interest in Islam. The “Emel” team is always willing to help the youth know their religion,roots and culture better”

The Crimean Tatar National Flag Day Is Celebrated in Crimea

On June 26, Wednesday, the Crimean Tatar National Flag Day was celebrated for the fourth time in Simferopol’. The Festival was traditionally held in the very heart of the Crimean Capital, the Trenev Park. In this park they settle the largest Crimean Tatar National Flag (22 meters long and 12 meters wide) in the open air.

This time the Crimean Tatar Youth NGO “Emel” was one of the co-organisers, and its activists took part in settling that flag in the square.

The contemporary Crimean Tatar National Flag was statuted during the Kurultai in 1917. In June, 1991, the newly-summoned Kurultai confirmed the flag in the form of the blue cloth with the yellow mark of tamga.

In 2010 the Crimean Tatar Youth initiated the celebration of their national flag, and so June 26 became their national fest.

Traditionally the motor rally is held during this day. The cars decorated with national flags travel across the Crimean Peninsula.

Various activities are also held in Trenev Park, Sipferopol, such as photo show, children's chalk-drawing contest, traditional crafts fair and the Kuresh (Crimean Tatar national wrestling) competition.

There has also been a gala concert this year.
