Islam in Ukraine - Palestine https://islam.in.ua/en/palestine en Why HAMAS is not DPR? https://islam.in.ua/en/opinion/why-hamas-not-dpr

The Media started drawing parallels between Ukraine and Israel, HAMAS and DPR (self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic”) almost at the same time when Israel started bombing Gaza. How correct it is to draw such parallels, and what are the people who say so missing?

Three Israeli teenagers disappeared in mid-June on the Western Bank of the Jordan river. Israeli authorities called this a kidnapping and, as usual, accused HAMAS of it. The official version says that all three of them were found dead some time later. Palestinian party denied it had something to do with the incident, but it didn’t matter, as Israel started a scale bombing of the blockade Sector Gaza.

Detailed analysis of Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its reasons is not a matter for a single article - though knowing history makes understanding the peculiarities of confrontation easier - but there’s another thing we find interesting here.

Many Ukrainian Media started drawing parallels like “Ukraine = Israel”, “HAMAS = DPR” almost at the same time when Israel started bombing Gaza. Journalists and bloggers launched an active campaign of proving that HAMAS, DPR and LPR are the same kind, and even compared their aims and methods. Most of those authors made an univocal conclusion: Palestinian resistance has no difference from Donbass “rebels”, and both Ukraine and Israel are absolutely right in aiming to free their land from terrorists. At this point the local analytics missed some important issues - either because of ignorance or of malintention.

First, Palestinian Arabs lived on their land long before the Jewish State was created, and HAMAS was created as a result of Israeli occupation. Israel, inch by inch, forced the Palestinians from the land granted to them by the UN plan of 1947 for dividing Palestine, and created separate isolated enclaves. This is the way how sektor Gaza appeared, among others. Does it reassemble the creation of DPR or LPR? Hardly.

Second, in Palestine we see confrontation between two different peoples, and, in fact, two states, - not a confrontation within one state. Palestine (including Gaza) is an acknowledged non-Member Observer State status in the United Nations. And who acknowledged DPR? South Ossetia? A serious international breakthrough, indeed…

Third, HAMAS came to power in Palestine after parliamentary elections, not after forced takeovers of Israeli cities and importing heavy vehicles from abroad. Palestinian party has a full support from most Palestinians instead of hiding behind their backs, as some analysts say. How many people living in Donbass are really happy of the DPR and LPR's existence, I wonder?

Fourth, unlike DPR, Palestinian resistance doesn’t kill peasants and destroy infrastructure on the territories they control. Representatives of Israeli enforcement agencies and armed colonists, but not the peasants and children.

In this situation Ukraine makes a great difference from Israel, as Ukraine doesn’t go for massive bombing of Donetsk and Luhansk residential areas excusing themselves with presumption “DPR/LPR fighters might be hiding there”. At the same time, more than 200 Palestinian peasants were killed in the bombings of Sector Gaza, dozens of houses and infrastructure objects destroyed.

Fifth, one shouldn’t rely greatly on the fact that HAMAS is in the list of terrorist organisations in the US and a range of other western countries, as the procedure of adding some or other organisation to those lists is sometimes absurd. Thus, the US didn’t add some Chechen squads to those lists although they did commit terrorist attacks during war with Russia and never denied it and took responsibility for those acts. If DPR and LPR still aren’t in such lists, does this mean that Ukraine has no right to confront them using force?

Sixth, most fighters of Palestinian resistance are local people, inspired by the idea to free their occupied land - not the sellswords receiving salary from either local oligarchs or foreign secret services. I can’t recall any Arab country to have a solemn goodbye ceremony for the soldiers that were to be sent to fight against Israel.

This is why HAMAS is not DPR, and confrontation between Israel and Palestine differs from the Anti-Terrorist Operation in Ukraine. Drawing any parallels between them is trying to compare issues different both in nature and charachter.

And, by the way, seventh - HAMAS never hit commercial flights.
the population of Gaza is subject to genocide by Israeli army, which kills them for their nationality and religion. 25 young men, dressed in T-shirts with issue-related prints, entered the subway and made a tour over the most busy stations, such as “Lukyanivska” — “Zoloti Vorota” — “Teatralna” — “Khreshchatyk” — “Maydan Nezalezhnosti” — “Geroiv Dnipra” — “L’va Tolstogo” — “Palats Sportu” — “Lukyanivska”. Elated with success, they decided to repeat this flashmob several times during the following week.

As Mr.Ismail Al-Bekhesi, the project initiator and coordinator, told, they were agreeably surprised to see people relieving vivid interest towards their flashmob. “People took pictures of us and filmed videos, smiled friendly, took us positively. Frankly speaking, we had some doubts whether passers-by will understand our initiative, as there’s a type of people that take any critics for Israel as anti semitism for some reason. At the same time, there’s been a broad campaign in the media and the social media when Russia started attacking our Homeland, where people compared Ukraine with Israel and Palestine (Gaza in particular) was always linked to the DPR and LPR (self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk Peoples Republics — editor’s note).”

“My father is a Palestinian, but I was born and raised in Ukraine, this is my Homeland. My Mother is a Crimean Tatar. I love my homeland, and it’s really painful for me to see some people trying to advertise Israel and justify its murders of civil population in Gaza, using our country's tragedy as a plot. Moreover, it’s Russia who acts like Israel in this particular situation in Ukraine: territories are occupied, patriots are driven out, people are being kidnapped and tortured just because they love their Fatherland and don’t want to leave it in benefit for the greedy neighbours”.

Ismail’s initiative was supported by other young people of different ethnic origin, and this is how this flashmob was born.

Every participant had a hashtag “#геноцид_в_ГАЗЕ” (RUS. “#genocide_in_GAZA”) on his back. This hashtag is used by unindifferent Russian-speaking people in the social media in their posts on Israeli aggression and destructions. Anyone can not only take a picture of the young people, but also ask them to tell about the history of Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and, in particular, history of Gaza — the young people are open for communication.

<span https://islam.in.ua/en/viewpoint/economic-initiative-john-kerry-able-replace-political-process

Making his sixth trip to the region since taking office, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was due to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Jordan on Tuesday as he tries to nudge the Palestinians and Israelis toward a resumption of peace talks that broke down nearly three years ago due to the Israel’s obstinate disinclination to stop developing new communities on the occupied Palestinian Land.

After Barack Obama’s visit to Middle East early March this year and his negotiations with the Israeli, Palestinian and Jordan leaders American diplomacy is persistent in searching ways to unblock the negotiation process and finding the solution acceptable for both parties.

After three days of intensive shuttle diplomacy between Jerusalem, Ramallah and the Jordanian capital, Amman, Kerry said some progress had been made but there was more work to be done. He was able, at official stage at least, to bring the positions of the Palestinian and Israeli governments together by using rather serious economic instruments and the influence of World Economic Forum.

John Kerry negotiated with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime-Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his stay. Both parties have difficult decisions to make before starting direct negotiations, Kerry noted.

“I know that there is deep skepticism among diplomats and Middle East analysts that the Israelis and Palestinians will resume peace talks, but I’m most hopeful because of the positive steps that Israelis themselves and Palestinians are taking on the ground and the promise that those steps represent about the possibilities of the future. The path to resolution of this longstanding conflict in this critical corner of the world, that path is not about fate. It’s about choices, choices that people can make”.

The United Kingdom Foreign Secretary and First Secretary of State William Hague supported his American colleague and warned of the danger that the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations fail once again, and this was the last attempt of reconciliation and there was no “Plan B”.

John Kerry in his passionate speech at the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa, named three components necessary for viable State of Palestine. After Kerry, these components (namely a qualified government, security and economic opportunities) make necessary conditions for a successful forming of Palestinian statesmanship.

Serious economic part was the key element of the plan by the US Secretary of State. This means far-reaching economic basement is underpinned for unfreezing direct negotiations between Israel and Palestine. During his speech in Jordan on may 26, John Kerry announced plans for a $4 billion economic programme he designed together with Anthony Blair to kickstart the Palestinian economy and provide the basis for sustainable peace. The plan, put together by a group of international regional experts, would increase Palestine’s GDP by 50% and cut unemployment from 21% of the workforce to 8% in just three years. Kerry said that US$ 4 billion dollars can make an enormous difference in a relatively small area with a population of just 4 million. “The intention is not just to make it transformative, but to make it different from anything ever seen before,” he added.

Kerry called for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime-Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to support the plan which will result in more independence for Palestinians and a more favourable investment climate for Palestine. “As soon as people find their honor in a worthy workplace, the nation gains its honour for the growing economy and will have their feet on the ground, which helps them build their future”, Mr. Kerry said.

Shimon Peres, President of Israel, said that this plan complements the US efforts to renew the bilateral negotiations process within the Palestine-Israeli conflict. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stated that critical moment had come for the Palestinians, and “the new generation starts loosing trust in bilateral decision as they have no real hope for the future”.

During the work of World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa in Jordan about 200 businessmen of Israeli and Palestinian origin supported the Overcoming the deadlock initiative, namely the programme for joint actions of businessmen from both countries to find a fair balance in Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Kerry, who ended a round of shuttle diplomacy between Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said at the time that "with a little more work, the start of final status negotiations could be within reach". Mahmoud Abbas, the President of Palestine, said in his his speech during the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa in the city of Ash-Shuna (Jordan), that peace between the Palestinians and the Israeli “is still possible”.

Abbas welcomed the US Secretary of State efforts for renewing Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking. At the same time, he specified the conditions necessary for “ensuring peace and safety for both parties”.

Abbas has said that, for new talks to be held, Netanyahu must freeze and evacuate the settlements and recognize the West Bank's boundary before its capture by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war as the basis for the future Palestine's border. He also demanded to free Palestinian political prisoners.

Israel says it is willing to negotiate without preconditions, but has so far refused to meet Palestinian demands.

We need to note that both Israeli and Palestinian administrations were cool to the idea of the John Kerry economic plan for Palestine. The Palestinians took it as the new version of the Benjamin Netanyahu “economical peace agreement” which, from the Palestinians’ point of view, is to make them forget about the political regulation by promising indefinite wealth growth prospects.

Senior economic adviser to President Abbas Mohammad Mustafa said that “the political element should go side by side with the economic element because part of the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the borders of 1967, with its capital in the West Jerusalem. There must be an independent economy and a salvation for refugees”.

The deputy head of Hamas’ political bureau Mousa Abu Marzouk’s comment on the situation was even more brief: “This so-called John Kerry economical plan is all about buying time for Zionists”, he said on his Facebook page.

Therefore the fact is once again proven: the highly-publicized economic initiative is not a replacement for the political process within the terms of all the Resolutions and Agreements ratified earlier by the Un, the Arab league and Arab Peace Initiative. This, of course, is important, but only as a segment serving to promote political regulation of the problem which is causing constant pain in Arab and Islamic world for almost 7 decades by now.
<br About it the ambassador of the Palestinian autonomy in Ukraine, Dr. Mohammad Al-Asaad stated in his interview to the portal "Religion in Ukraine". "There are a lot of famous Christians who were killed for the sake of the Palestinian statehood", he said.

The ambassador denied the spread in mass-media of the message on infringement of freedom of religion of Christians in Palestine.

"Any act of terrorism or murder is just a criminal offense, not connected with religion in any way", Al-Asaad emphasized, answering the question on murder in 2007 in Gaza Strip of a well-known Christian active worker, Rami Khader Ayyad.

He told that in Gaza there are a lot of Christians, though the mode of HAMAS party, supervising Gaza Strip, can be considered pro-Islamic.

"Nevertheless, it is difficult to find religious motives in the actions of radicalists", the ambassador, who belongs to FATH party, noticed.

Pilgrimage place

Even despite the difficult situation, every year to Palestine come about 2 million foreigners for pilgrimage, informed Al-Asaad, having told what the people who visited Palestine have seen and have experienced: each believer can easily perform the rituals, prayers to God. After "Israel" cancelled visa regime for tourists from Ukraine, the tourist's stream from our country increased, he marks.According to his data, in 2011 about 20 000 – 25 000 Ukrainians visited Palestine that profited the autonomy.

Therefore Al-Asaad considers that development of relations between two states goes on in the correct way."I am assured that any visit, whatever character it has, terminates with very good impressions of Ukrainians, as Palestinians are benevolent and hospitable. Even despite difficult conditions".

The Ukrainian Christians for the independent Palestine

Palestine with satisfaction considers position of Ukraine regarding settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

"The Christianity which stems from Kiev still from the ancient times treated Palestine benevolently and kindly", the ambassador marked.

Proceeding from his experience of dialogue with representatives of all faiths, represented in Ukraine, he does not agree with the opinion that the Ukrainian Christians tend to support "Israel" in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

On the contrary, according to his observations, Ukrainian Churches support the process of peaceful, bloodless settlement of the conflict.

"We support Palestine in its aspiration to be the independent state on the world map", he heard from all.

Let us notice that for today in Palestine are represented all faiths, including about 55000 Christians who are integral part of the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian Muslims consider Christians as absolutely equal partners in the dialogue, Al-Asaad tells.

By "Religion in of "President Hotel" took place a solemn reception organized by the Embassy of the PNA in Ukraine on the occasion of the International day of solidarity with the people of Palestine.

On the international scene, in the United Nations in particular, Ukraine consistently supports a peaceful settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and aspiration of Palestinians to creation of their own independent state. It was declared by the deputy minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine Evgeniy Mikitenko, acting at the state reception, organized by the Embassy of the PNA in Ukraine on the occasion of the International day of solidarity with the people of Palestine.

"We are open for all parties and are ready to render intermediary services in the case of need", informed E.Mikitenko. As he said, Ukraine supports efforts of the international "quartet" and the initiative of the USA and the United Nations directed on the establishment of peace between Israel and Palestine. E.Mikitenko noticed that Ukraine and Palestine are connected "by an old story of friendly relations, active cultural and scientific exchange", informs UKRINFORM.

The coordinator of system of the United Nations in Ukraine Adam Olivier reminded that in the International day of solidarity with the Palestinian people "we recollect the situation which developed in the Middle East, but we still think what else we can do for peace". He spoke on two important questions which decision is expected in 2011. "First, the president of the PNA Mahmoud Abbas and the prime minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu were obliged to achieve till September the decision of the frame agreement on the constant status (of the Palestinian autonomy - ed.)", informed A.Olivier. As to the second point, in August of the next year is the end of the two-year program of actions for Palestinian autonomy on statehood establishment.

At the same time, the representative of the United Nations specified disappointment which dominates among the biggest part of Palestinians concerning possibility of achievement of the universal peace treaty. The expiry of the term of action of the moratorium of Israel on building of settlements became the reason of this despair, according to A.Olivier, "what negatively affected further carrying out of the direct negotiations which started in September about granting of the definitive status".

The coordinator of system of the United Nations in Ukraine emphasized necessity of performance by Israel of its obligations on freezing of settling activity according to positions of international law and the plan "Road map". "Under the international agreement urgent is the necessity to terminate the occupation which started in 1967, consideration of fundamental questions of the sphere of safety of both parties, the decision of refugee problem and vision of Jerusalem after negotiation as a capital of two states", he added. The representative of the United Nations wished, that the next year became "the year when we at last will make real establishment of fair and lasting peace in the Middle East, fixed in resolutions of the SC of the United Nations, the previous agreements, the Madrid frame agreement, the program" Road map" and the Arabian peace initiative".

From his part, the Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the PNA in Ukraine Mohammed Kasem Al-Asad emphasized importance of continuation of struggle of the people and the management of Palestine "for achievement of their high aim - restoration of the rights of our people". He specified necessity "to look through the page of the past and to open a new page where there is no place to occupation and animosities, the page which speaks the language of rights, instead of the language of force". As he said, safety for two people can be reached only in the conditions of the fair peace, equal relations and mutual respect. "This day we address to the whole world, including Israelis, with an appeal to peaceful co-existence. The Israeli people should understand that the reason of long violence is occupation. Peace guarantees safety, not the opposite", Mohammed Kasem Al-Asad said.

By UKRINFORM

Related Links:

The native of Vinnitsa, Irina Polischuk, will not be deported from "Israel" to Ukraine. It was already definitively confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Earlier Israeli authorities declared compulsory deportation of the Ukrainian home. Irina long and unsuccessfully tried to ask the occupational mode to leave her in the homeland of her husband, Ibrahim Sarahni, who does his lifelong term in a Zionist prison.

The occupational authorities accused the Ukrainian woman and her Palestinian spouse of participation in act of terrorism in Rishon le-Tsion in 2002. Ibrahim was sentenced to six life-time imprisonments and still 45 years of prison. Irina was originally sentenced to three years of prison, and she was offered choice between imprisonment and deportation. The woman long tried to ask the Israeli authorities not to deport her, but unsuccessfully. Irina's lawyer appealed, but lost the case, and she was sentenced to 20 years of prison.

By this time Irina Polischuk already done almost 7 years from the term and now invaders declared preparation of her deportation to Ukraine. The authorities of the Palestinian autonomy tried to appeal against this decision, noticing that the Ukrainian has two minor daughters one of which is brought up by her parents in Ukraine. However, this appeal, and request of the woman to abolish her deportation to Ukraine was rejected.

According to TSN, Valentina Polischuk, the mother of the woman, did not know what happened with her daughter for seven years. And then she received a letter from the embassy of Ukraine in "Israel". In it there was stated that the woman was sentenced to 3,5 years of imprisonment, - as if the Israeli authorities at first decided that she appeared casually in one car with the shahid. When the Ukrainian declared that after the imprisonment she wishes to stay in Palestine - her term was reconsidered and she was sentenced to 20 years of prison.

For Palestinians the Ukrainian is a role model

Irina Polischuk's story is known to all Palestinians - about it is frequently told on local radio.

Ukrainian Irina Polischuk converted to Islam and then became a part of the second Intifada, that in translation from Arabic means social uprising.

After Irina's arrest, one of her daughters is brought up by the relatives of her husband. Grandfather Ahmed does not tell to his granddaughter Ghazali, for what her mother stays in Zionist torture chambers. Another daughter lives in Vinnitsa together with the woman's mother. Sisters speak different languages, seldom, but keep in contact, and wait their mum.

By TSN

Related Links:

<a
