Ukraine Evacuated 117 Citizens From Sector Gaza

117 Ukrainian citizens have been evacuated from Sector Gaza, assisted by the Ukrainian Diplomatic Representative’s Office in Palestine Autonomy, Mr.Vasyl Zvarych, deputy Director of the Department For Informational policy said on a briefing - the UkrInform Agency reports.

“As of today, the Ukrainian Representational Office In Palestinian Autonomy assisted 117 Ukrainian citizens in leaving the Sector Gaza,’ he said.

He also noted that there are, according to the estimations of Ukrainian diplomats, about 800 Ukrainian citizens still remaining in the Sector.

According to Mr.Zvarych, Ukrainian diplomats in the region are constantly informing the remaining Ukrainian citizens on possibilities to leave the dangerous region. The Ministry of Foreign Affair promised to bring anyone willing home.

1,800 Palestinians and 67 Israeli soldiers were killed during the month of Israeli military operation.

A group of young people carried out the first stage of flash-mob meant to attract the Ukrainian public attention to the Middle East, there the population of Gaza is subject to genocide by Israeli army, which kills them for their nationality and religion. 25 young men, dressed in T-shirts with issue-related prints, entered the subway and made a tour over the most busy stations, such as “Lukyanivska” — “Zoloti Vorota” — “Teatralna” — “Khreshchatyk” — “Maydan Nezalezhnosti” — “Geroiv Dnipra” — “L’va Tolstogo” — “Palats Sportu” — “Lukyanivska”. Elated with success, they decided to repeat this flashmob several times during the following week.

As Mr.Ismail Al-Bekhesi, the project initiator and coordinator, told, they were agreeably surprised to see people relieving vivid interest towards their flashmob. “People took pictures of us and filmed videos, smiled friendly, took us positively. Frankly speaking, we had some doubts whether passers-by will understand our initiative, as there’s a type of people that take any critics for Israel as anti semitism for some reason. At the same time, there’s been a broad campaign in the media and the social media when Russia started attacking our Homeland, where people compared Ukraine with Israel and Palestine (Gaza in particular) was always linked to the DPR and LPR (self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk Peoples Republics — editor’s note).”

“My father is a Palestinian, but I was born and raised in Ukraine, this is my Homeland. My Mother is a Crimean Tatar. I love my homeland, and it’s really painful for me to see some people trying to advertise Israel and justify its murders of civil population in Gaza, using our country's tragedy as a plot. Moreover, it’s Russia who acts like Israel in this particular situation in Ukraine: territories are occupied, patriots are driven out, people are being kidnapped and tortured just because they love their Fatherland and don’t want to leave it in benefit for the greedy neighbours”.

Ismail’s initiative was supported by other young people of different ethnic origin, and this is how this flashmob was born.

Every participant had a hashtag “#геноцид_в_ГАЗЕ” (RUS. “#genocide_in_GAZA”) on his back. This hashtag is used by unindifferent Russian-speaking people in the social media in their posts on Israeli aggression and destructions. Anyone can not only take a picture of the young people, but also ask them to tell about the history of Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and, in particular, history of Gaza — the young people are open for communication.

Director of Gaza power plant missing in Ukraine

The director of Gaza's sole power plant was reported missing by relatives Tuesday, who said they had not heard from him since he left the Ukraine five days ago after visiting his brother.

Family members say they fear Dirar Abu Sisi was abducted, and began a sit-in outside of the International Red Cross office in Gaza City and appealed to the Ukrainian president to help find Dirar.

Upon his entry to the Ukraine in late January, family members said, Abu Sisi had been interrogated and his passport was confiscated. He told relatives that his passport was returned to him on Wednesday, two days before he went missing.

Abu Sisi is married to a Ukrainian national, who lives with him and the couple's six children in Gaza city.

Flotilla attack, willful killing: UN Report

A UN probe bashes Israel for committing "willful killing" and torture when its troops attacked a Gaza-bound aid flotilla in May.

The inquiry ordered by the UN Human Rights Council said "Israel" used "unnecessary violence" during the attack.

The Israeli attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, that killed nine Turkish activists, "constituted grave violations of human rights law and international humanitarian law," AFP quoted the report.

The scathing report also dismissed Tel Aviv's allegations that activists aboard the flotilla's largest ship, the MV Mavi Marmara, were violent thereby justifying the decision by Israeli soldiers to open fire, adding that some of the activists killed were victim of actions "consistent with...summary execution."

The aid flotilla, organized by the Free Gaza Movement and the Turkish Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief, was carrying humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and construction materials to Gaza which has been under tight Israeli blockade since the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, seized control in June 2007.

The UN probe also termed as 'unlawful' the continuation of the blockade that has caused great physical and mental harm to the Gaza resident.

"The blockade is unlawful and cannot be sustained in law. This is so regardless of the grounds on which it is sought to justify the legality of the blockade," said the inquiry report.

The probe report is expected to be presented to the UN Human Rights Council on Monday.

Karpatcheva Called Attack of "Israel" on Ships of Defenders Action of Sea Terrorism

The representative on human rights Nina Karpatcheva is deeply revolted by application of military force by "Israel" against participants of "Freedom Flotilla", delivering to Gaza Strip humanitarian cargo, including children's food, medicines, medical equipment and building materials. ForUm was informed on it in the press-service of Ombudsman.

The fact of capture by "Israeli" soldiers of a foreign vessel in neutral waters that contradicts norms of international law, including the United Nations Convention on a marine law is scandalous.

As a result of violent acts of the Israeli soldiers 9 persons were killed, and more than 50 defenders were injured.

As a matter of fact there was the action of the sea terrorism which demonstrated rough neglect of fundamental human rights, first of all the right to life. This certificate deserves unconditional condemnation, emphasized Karpatcheva.

She considers that the incident is a direct consequence of practice of "Israel" based on the decision of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict by violent military methods, including those concerning inhabitants of Gaza Strip, about three years being in illegal blockade and exposed to constant bombings.

In the beginning of 2009 the Ombudsman of Ukraine opposed such violent practice when during the military operation "Cast lead" in Gaza Strip were killed thousand Palestinians, and also citizens of Ukraine among whom there were children.

Karpatcheva is assured: force application leads only to conflict escalation because civilians of both countries suffer most. If the blockade was stopped then, the crime against humanity which took place recently would be impossible.

To leave the deadlock it is possible only under condition of strict observance of norms of international law and fundamental rights and freedoms of the person that assumes first of all immediate termination of illegal blockade of Gaza Strip and the admission of humanitarian missions of the United Nations on its territory for liquidation of consequences of humanitarian accident.

The Ombudsman of Ukraine expresses sincere condolences to families of victims, to victims of this tragic incident and addresses to the United Nations Organization with appeal to take all measures, further to exclude violence as a way of decision of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. It is in interests both of Palestinian people, and the people of "Israel", marks Karpatcheva.

The statement of the Ombudsman of Ukraine is directed to the address of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, the Supreme commissioner of the United Nations on human rights, Navanethem Piley, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the EU, Catherine Ashton.

In Ukraine Passed Actions in Support of "Freedom Flotilla"

On June, 2nd, in Kiev at walls of the Israeli embassy passed a meeting in support of "Freedom Flotilla" which activists were shot by military naval forces of "Israel". On the meeting gathered about 200 persons to show their indignation with the actions of "Israel" concerning participants of the humanitarian flotilla.

The peace action organized at the initiative of Turkish and Arabian national groups was surrounded by police officers.

"If you were not criminals, you would not shelter behind walls and employees of security services", with such words one of the participants, the representative of the anti-war movement, addressed employees of the Israeli embassy, being indignant of austerity measures of safety which were undertook before the demonstration.

Activists proclaimed "Long live Turkey and Palestine!" demanding stopping of blockade of Gaza. Also demonstrators called for court over leaders of "Israel" and to its exception from the UN Security Council.

Michael Romashenko - the head of the association of anti-fascists - declared that general silence concerning incessant crimes of "Israel" concerning inhabitants of Palestine and Gaza including, is assistance in these crimes.

He noticed that Ukraine will also participate in preparation of new caravans of help to suffering families of Gaza until the sector blockade will not be stopped.

Meeting in Kharkov

On June, 1st, Muslims of the city of Kharkov with the assistance of a number of social organisations held a meeting dedicated to the events in the Mediterranean Sea at the coast of Gaza where the Israeli soldiers made bloody massacre over peace activists of humanitarian mission, in which result 20 persons were killed and about 60 were injured.

At the meeting sounded words of participants, the majority of which welcomed position of Turkey concerning the Palestinian problem, and also called for further support of the population of Gaza and rendering of pressure upon "Israel" until the blockade will be stopped.

In his speech Zaki Ashkar - the Charge d'Affaires of the Turkish embassy - stated that the Palestinian problem is a problem both of the Arabs, and all Muslims, and that Turkey also strives to its decision. As he said, the Turkish government is ready to render any help to inhabitants of Gaza.

Let us remind that the Ukrainian Ombudsman named the action of Israel "the action of sea terrorism", which demonstrated rough neglect of fundamental human rights, first of all the right for life.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine urged to make thorough investigation of the incident with the sea humanitarian escort intended for the inhabitants of Gaza Strip.

In particular in the comment concerning the Israeli armed attack on "Freedom Flotilla" the Department of information policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine it is stated, "In Ukraine with deep concern was apprehended the message on the incident which occurred on May, 31st, to the sea humanitarian escort intended for the inhabitants of Gaza Strip".

The department also noticed that "special concern is caused by the fact of use of weapons, in what result people were killed".

"We express sincere condolences to families and relatives of victims, and also wishes of recover to the injured, - was noted by the ministry. - We call for carrying out of careful and all-round investigation of circumstances of this incident".

In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are convinced that the co-coordinated efforts for the purpose of solving of difficult social, economic and humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip will make impossible repetition of similar tragic cases in the future.

Indignation

The Israeli attack of humanitarian mission for the blockade Gaza caused a storm of protests worldwide.

Protest meeting took place on June, 1st, before the Israeli embassy in Moscow. In it took part approximately 50 persons, states "IslamNews".

In Turkey about 10 thousand persons passed with demonstration from the Israeli consulate in Istanbul to the city central square, crying out slogans and swinging posters with an inscription "Israel" - the murderer".

Protest meetings also took place in Ankara, informs "Islam for all".

In Great Britain the government residence was blocked by hundreds of activists, in their hands there were posters with inscriptions, demanding to stop the Israeli war crimes in Gaza and blockade of this region.

In Greece the police used tear gas against 2500 demonstrators who gathered before the Israeli embassy in Athenes and arranged meeting before the building, demanding termination of the blockade of Gaza.

At the building of the Israeli embassy in Paris took place a collision of hundreds protesting with police, which used for dispersal tear gas and bludgeons. According to the messages of policemen, in the Parisian demonstration participated about 1200 persons.

As it was informed earlier, the head of foreign policy department of the EU Catherine Ashton demanded from "Israel" carrying out of thorough investigation of circumstances of the attack.

The head of the European diplomacy also repeated the requirement "immediately and unconditionally to open a check point on border with Gaza for free movement of humanitarian help, goods and people".

In connection with the incident took place the extraordinary session of the Security Council of the United Nations.

On the board the flotilla there were about 700 activists from different countries of the world, including the USA, Great Britain, Australia, Greece, Canada, Malaysia, Algeria, Serbia, Belgium, Ireland, Norway, Sweden and Kuwait.

The majority of passengers of escort ships are citizens of Turkey.

EU Muslims Press For Gaza Siege Lift

Raising awareness about the impact of the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip, European Muslims are pressing hard to lift the merciless blockade on the 1.6 million people in the enclave.

“The European Muslim role in lifting the Israeli siege on Gaza is backed by humanitarian and legal principles, which go in line with the values championed by European governments and societies,” Dr. Arafat Madi, chairman of the European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza (ECESG), told IsalmOnlne.net.

“The importance of this role basically emanates from the weight of the European role in drawing up international policies.”

Madi met this week with President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek to discuss the crippling blockade on Gaza. “The meeting took up the importance of activating the European role in lifting the unjust siege on Gaza,” he said.

Israel has clamped a siege on the Gaza Strip since Hamas was voted to power in the 2006 legislative elections. It further tightened the blockade after Hamas assumed control in 2007, effectively leaving the 1.6 million Gazans cut off from the outside world and struggling with desperate poverty.

“The ECESG has sought all political means to break the siege on Gaza,” noted the European Muslim leader. He said a series of meetings were held with most European lawmakers and decision-makers to discuss how to lift the blockade.

“The ECESG has also contacted officials and governments across the continent to press for lifting the siege and having a more effective European role in the region to help restore the legitimate Palestinian rights.”

Multi-faceted

European Muslims have used different tools to bring the merciless Israeli siege to an end.

“We have taken measures, in cooperation with European MPs, to file a lawsuit at the European Court of Justice to halt a partnership agreement between the European Union and Israel over the Israeli violation of the agreement, which stipulates respect of human rights,” Madi said.

He said the Brussels-based ECESG has also played an important role in highlighting the impact of the siege. “It has also been rallying public support for the besieged Gazans via the media and organizing demonstrations and sits-in in front of government premises,” he said.

“In addition, the ECESG launched media and awareness campaigns in universities as well as sending e-mails to highlight the impact of the siege to politicians, decision-makings, press and the media.”

The ECESG has further organized several aid convoys to the blockaded strip, he said. “We also organized visits by European delegations to Gaza to assess the tragedy caused by the siege,” he said.

Last month, Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin led a delegation to Gaza to assess the situation there.

“What I witnessed in Gaza, amidst all the rubble and devastation, was a population traumatized and reduced to poverty by an unjust and completely counterproductive blockade,” he said. “The tragedy of Gaza is that it is fast in danger of becoming a tolerated humanitarian crisis.”

“[It is] a situation that is proving extremely difficult to remedy or ameliorate due to the blockade and the wider ramifications of efforts to try and achieve political progress in the Middle East.”

Madi, the European Muslim leader, hopes that the Muslim efforts would bear fruits on lifting the Gaza blockade. “The siege on Gaza is a brazen violation of international law and norms,” he said.

The ECESG chairman noted that the Israeli siege would never have continued without the West’s support. “This requires pressures on the decision-makers in the West, especially Europe, which plays an important role in efforts to lift the siege.”

Pitifully looking at her baby child, Om Yamen is recalling the past 1,000 days of her life under a crippling Israeli siege.

"Life has been a living hell," she told in a broken voice. "We can’t stand this anymore. The siege has exhausted us and broken our backs."

The 1.6 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, a costal enclave, are marking 1,000 days since Israel slapped a crippling siege on their territory.

"Each night seemed like a thousand days," said the tears-eyed Palestinian mother.

Israel has clamped a siege on the Gaza Strip since Hamas was voted to power in the 2006 legislative elections.

It further tightened the blockade after Hamas assumed control in 2007 following clashes with Fatah rival.

The situation worsened after Israel launched a three-week deadly onslaught on Gaza last December, killing more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians.

The offensive wrecked havoc on the infrastructure of the densely-populated enclave, leaving some 20,000 homes and thousands other buildings in ruins.

Israel bans the entry of materials needed to rebuild Gaza, such as cement and steel, effectively undermining efforts to rebuild the strip.

"We have taken a lot of suffering," said Om Yamen. "Our hearts have been broken. I don’t think we can bear this anymore."

Lifeless

The crippling siege has left the Gazan population lacking the simplest means of life.

"We are fed up with the siege," a frustrated Yusuf Radi, who rarely finds a buyer of his child toys, told IslamOnline.net. "We have no work or electricity. Even cooking gas has become a scarcity."

The Israeli siege has sharply increased poverty in the Strip, leaving nearly eight out of every 10 people dependent on aid and leading businesses to close and lay off workers.

"There is neither electricity, water, medicine, cooking gas nor baby milk," said Abu-Mazen Murtagi. "The siege has taken hard on us."

Many international human rights groups have accused Israel of pursuing a policy of collective punishment against the Gaza population.

"We have run out of patience," said an angry Maged Al-Sharfa, a merchant. "We are no longer able to endure this. Life has become meaningless and the siege has hit hard everything in the strip."

Bushrah Hamad is waiting for what the coming days will bring. "It’s true that we endured the past days despite our suffering and screams, but we can’t take anymore," she said. "At the end of the day, we are human beings and will collapse at any moment."

Rima Salama, a student, is not optimistic."These 1000 days will be followed by thousands others," she said. "The siege has become part of us. It never goes away."

Congressmen Ask Obama to End Gaza Siege

Fifty members of Congress have sent US President Barack Obama a letter urging him to work for lifting the years-long Israeli blockade on Gaza Strip and the consequent enormous suffering of its nearly 1.5 million people.

"This crisis has devastated livelihoods, entrenched a poverty rate of over 70%, increased dependence on erratic international aid, allowed the deterioration of public infrastructure, and led to the marked decline of the accessibility of essential services."

Israel has clamped a siege on the Palestinian coastal enclave since its arch-foe Hamas was voted to power in the 2006 legislative elections. It further tightened the blockade after Hamas assumed full control of the Strip in 2007.

Israel blocks humanitarian aid, including harmless goods such as cheeses, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and toilet papers. "The current blockade has severely impeded the ability of aid agencies to do their work to relieve suffering," said the Congressmen.

Amnesty International said in a report earlier this month that the Israeli siege, which blocks basic humanitarian aid, was "suffocating" the civilian population.

The letter, dated January 21, was co-spearheaded by Democratic Representative Keith Ellison of Minnesota, a Muslim, and Democratic Congressman Jim McDermott. It was signed by 48 more Congressmen from 22 US states, informs IslamOnline.net.

A number of supporting religious groups and denominations, including Jewish and Christian ones, have also signed on to the letter.

Aid Diplomacy

The signatories called upon the Obama administration to exert diplomatic pressure to end the "de facto collective punishment" of Gazans.

The siege leaves the people of the impoverished Palestinian territory cut off from the outside world and struggling with desperate poverty.

Congressmen noted that the sufferings have enormously aggravated since Israel's Operation Cast Lead, in which nearly some 1,400 Palestinians were killed and 20,000 homes destroyed.

With Israel blocking construction materials needed for rebuilding, thousands of civilians are forced to take shelters in makeshifts tents. "Winter is arriving and the needs of the people grow ever more pressing."

The American lawmakers urged Obama to advocate for Gazans to get basics services such as clean water, food, medicine, sanitation supplies and construction materials.

"The unabated suffering of Gaza civilians highlights the urgency of reaching a resolution to the Israeli- Palestinian conflict," they said.

"We ask you to press for immediate relief for the citizens of Gaza as an urgent component of your broader Middle East peace effort."

They insist that by working for lifting the blockage, Obama would be proving that his administration is sincerely working for achieving Middle East peace.
