Mufti of RAMU “Umma” Mr.Said Ismagilov visited the Kyiv Mohyla Academy upon the invitation of Sociology Department on October 13. Meeting with 25 students of sociology lasted for 3 hours and impressed the guest by the young people’s inspiration to get a deeper insight both in the Muslim community of Ukraine (and the world) and the events we witness today.

As the Mufti himself shared his impressions of the meeting, “Wonderful young people they are! They are interested in Muslims’ history, culture, ceremonies and everyday life. A lot of interesting questions have been asked. I always enjoy meeting the well-educated youth; they have fresh minds, are sincere and patriotic. Ukraine has to place its stake on the youth, as this is a new generation of Ukrainians who are free from Soviet patterns of life.”

The students, among many other things, were interested in the Ukrainian Muslims’ position both in historical context and in the up-to-date events, as the largest communities of ukrainian Muslims live in the regions targeted by Russian aggression, and for that reason it’s important to know whether this social group is reliable to count on while restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Mr.Ismagilov explained that the Ukrainian Muslims’ love for their Homeland is based not only on their unrequited love, but also on Ukraine’s respect for its Muslim population’s rights, needs and freedoms and absence of religion-based persecution, ban for building mosques and lists of forbidden literature and many other things. The Mufti can’t simply imagine who and for what kind of of bribes can be “longing for Russia” in a situation like this.
