It’s been the second time when All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organisations addressed to the President and the Constitutional Commission of Parliament for clarification of their position of defending the family values.

According to the report of Institute of Religious Freedom, that note was signed by the Head of the Council, Mr.Victor Alexeenko, a Sabbatarian.

Religious leaders think that the new formulae of human rights and freedoms, proposed by the Constitutional Commission, “contain serious threats for the institution of family in Ukraine, for marriage as union of a man and a woman which is traditional for Ukrainian society, and also make grounds for same-sex partnerships which is unacceptable for public morals and natural evolution. In particular, implementation of term “genetic characteristics” to the article banning discrimination. which is unacceptable for public morals and its natural evolution.”

The whole thing is about articles 28 and 42 of Draft Constitution as revised by Workgroup on Human and Citizens’ rights, freedoms and obligations.

The Counsil of Churches thinks that “validation of such borderline bids by referring to European experience is inappropriate, as European countries are full of contradictions in views on the matters of anti-discrimination legislation, marriage and family, and legal instruments for the sexual minorities.”

The Council stressed that Ukrainian identity and traditional values  and principles of interpersonal relations have to be taken into account in some or other manner, as reflected in the Council’s proposals and amendments to Draft Constitution.

“All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organisations warns both the Constitutional Commission and the Parliament against implementing the above-mentioned provisions, which are a threat for Ukrainian state’s for punching it in the downfall of immorality and sin, ruining family as a basic social institution and promoting unnatural relation between people of same sex,” — the letter stressed.

The Council asked Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko for a in-person meeting with heads of churches and religious organisations in order to discuss the matter.

The media recall that the Constitutional Commission was created by the President in March 2015 in order to provide wide public discussion of Constitutional reform in Ukraine.

In June 2015, All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organisations joined the reforming process and formulated its amendments and proposals to the Fundamental Law.
