Kateryna Yevdokimova, a Ukrainian Muslim and fashion designer (owner of Katrin Kym brand) was one of the prize-winners at a prestigious contest for young designers New Fashion Zone-2017. Established jury consisting of Key fashion figures nominated and awarded Kateryna in Business Fashion Awards.

Noteworthy, there had been over 250 applications for the contest, of which only 70 participants were chosen. In the final stage, 30 designers competed for the first prize. Every collection was estimated by singularity of design, pattern, fabrics selection, manufacturing quality, probable demand for its fashion products, good timing for both Ukrainian and World markets, and the collection’s integrity. Every designer had to present their collection and answer questions from the jury.

As for Kateryna Yevdokimova, her brand Katrin Kym is Ukraine’s first Muslim Wear brand combining rhythm of modern city life with oriental traditions. Every set of garments from “Ev-a” Muslim Wear business collection shown the catwalk had been designed and made in terms of Shariah.

Besides psychic income and acknowledgement, the silver medalist received some physical prizes, too: one of the contest’s partners, a fabrics manufacturer, presented her with 30% discount for their products, and one of Kyiv’s largest malls offered 25% discount for renting trading platforms. PROMENADA Trade Centre, where the contest was held, offered her 2 months of free of charge rent for her store. It’s also nice that one of Kyiv beauty salons will cater her free of charge. Bears noting that silver prize for Muslim-oriented collection in predominantly non-Muslim country is an outstanding achievement.

Both Ukrainian and foreign media had already shown interest for Kateryna Yevdokimova and her work in the past; she had been invited to radio shows (including Christian station “Resurrection.Live radio” and mentioned by specialized publication IZUM, Islam in Ukraine had repeatedly written about her, as well as Ansar.ru, IslamNews and other media.

This time, Islam in Ukraine correspondent had to compete with other journalists in order to obtain comments from the designer.

“Today we demonstrated business garments for working muslim women,” said Kateryna. “We were really scrupulous in making the outfits both in terms of Islam and business image. The collection has several positions a girl can wear in the office, but only when she works in all-women environment - such are trousers, fitted jackets, etc. Those garments are supplemented with elongated loose-fitting jackets she can add to ensemble when going outside or working in mixed environment.”

Of course, every set of clothes has a matching headscarf that completes the outfit and adding the sense of chastity, and at the same time, femininity.

In terms of the final competition, New Fashion Zone MARKET was held where the guests could have a closer look at clothing samples, including those of Kateryna Yevdokimova.
