An Oral History Exhibition is to be held in Crimea next week in order to reveal unknown pages of history describing both separate people and ethnic groups based on their own words.

The “Crimean Living Pictures” Exhibition is based on the stories of people of more than 20 ethnic groups living in the peninsula. The volunteers of the project spend the whole Summer-2013 writing down those stories within the framework of “Active Ukraine: Different Generations’ History” project, carried out by joint efforts of International NGO “Basis of Freedom”, Regional Development Centre “Top-Kaya”, Simferopol Club For young Leaders and Crimean Ethnic Museum, sponsored by EU.

According to the project website, the volunteers spend the whole Summer-2013 writing down stories stories told by the Crimeans of various ethnic origin and cultural roots, i.e. Moldovans, Greeks, Bulgarians, Chuvashes, Mordovians, Belorussians, Estonians and Karaites.

Visitors will have an opportunity to talk to both the storytellers who are parts of the exposition and the volunteers involved in the project. Further discussion of practical aspects of the oral history is expected.

Similar events called “Living library” have been already held in several Ukrainian cities. This way of introducing people of different ethnic groups and cultures has proven itself effective.

The “Crimean Living Pictures” Exhibition is to take place on October 14, 2013, in Crimean Ethnic Museum (18 Pushkina Str, Simferopol), opening hour is 1 PM.
