Nikolaev mayor, Vladimir Chayka, considers that Muslims of the city should find possibility to build a mosque.

"I consider that Nikolaev Muslims should find possibility to build their temple. It is wrong that there is no mosque in the city", he stated.

He also informed that the Armenian diaspora for its own means already builds its church — on the Shirokobalkovsky stage. And Muslims do not have such possibility, though there are more that 20 thousand Muslims in the city.

"They had a mosque near the Municipal collegium, and until now there was its base. And I am for recreating a mosque on the same place", Chayka stated.

Let us notice that the Nikolaev mayor expressed similar statements earlier. So in January of this year he said that "for eight years he conducts such a policy with the deputy case with the state that in Nikolaev there should be a mosque" and promised to support projects of national minorities from outside the budget.

We shall note that for more than 15 years the Nikolaev Muslims cannot get permission from officials to restoring of a mosque which was built around the Petrovsky Park in 1870, but was destroyed by the Soviet power. And the territory, for which followers of Islam apply, actually is not used. But the City Council of Nikolaev still did not issue to Muslims the building license.
