The Crimean Tatars must use their legitimate rights and begin to demand execution of passports, service records and birth certificates in Crimean Tatar, said the president of France-Crimea Association, founder of the virtual La Richesse museum, lawyer Gullıver Altin.

He stressed, the Crimean Tatar fights for the right of self-determination in own historical Motherland – Crimea. Craving for such great goals, we often miss an opportunity to use those rights, which are stipulated by the Ukrainian legislation.

In particular, Mr. G. Altin refers to 11 Article of the Constitution of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and noted that “under the legislation of Ukraine a passport, service record, educational, marriage and birth certificates are executed in the Ukrainian and Russian languages and also in Crimean Tatar by petition of a citizen”, he said. According to him, this right is forgotten unfairly today.

“It is seems to me, the Crimean Tatars must apply with such applications to appropriate bodies. Because a right to have main citizen’s documents in Crimean Tatar is one of way of achievement for rebirth of our people”, considers Crimean Tatar public figure.

It will be recalled that the Ukraine’s President Yanukovych had earlier promised to submit bill of regional languages rights based on the European Charter of regional and minority languages to the parliament. Any issues of functioning of one or another language in a region will be considered by local councils under the future law.
