The leader of the "League of the Crimean-Tatar Women" Safinar Dzhemileva is categorically against observance in everyday life of instructions of the Holy Quran concerning wearing of hijab and polygamy practice.
In her interview to the newspaper "The Day" the well-known Crimean-Tatar public figure, the head of the "League of the Crimean-Tatar Women", the wife of the leader of the Mejlis Mustafa Dzhemilev, Safinar Dzhemileva, told about her understanding of Islamic instructions concerning women.
As she said, such instructions of Islam as hijab and humility to husband do not give possibility to women occupy an active civic position. "The Crimean Tatar women always differed that our women, unlike some other Muslim countries, never were enslaved; they always occupied very high and responsible position in the society. The Crimean Tatar women never wore a yashmak. From our history it is known that women played a considerable role in the society, in the policy of the Crimean Khanate", Dzhemileva emphasized.
The leader of the "League of the Crimean-Tatar Women" Safinar Dzhemileva is convinced that nowadays the Crimean Tatars do not need to wear hijab, and the movement for its observance in everyday life she considers "...not a typical tendency, but a sect". "Look, what wonderful gold, silver, what filigree jewelery ornaments have the Crimean Tatar women! Well, who will cover all this magnificence by hijab that nobody would see it? On the contrary! The Crimean Tatar women with pride expose their numerous earrings, rings, bracelets, we are proud of our seamstresses and jewelers", Dzhemileva said.
As she said, observance of norms of the Quran by the Crimean Tatar women is expressed in the fact that their bodies are never vulgarly opened". "Our state and our people always were secular, not fanatically religious.... The Crimean Islam never was such. I remember my grandmother. She had a small scarf, she prayed, read the Quran, and then took it off. Her body was not completely uncovered, but it was not excessively covered".
Appeals to full observance of instructions of the Quran cause indignation of Dzhemileva. "Nowadays in Crimea there are certain Muslim missionaries who assert that we misunderstand the Quran and that we profess wrong Islam. This is a primitive approach to understanding of Islam", she considers.
"Therefore we often hold seminars on problems of observance of the rights of women, we teach them pride, independence, freedom, we tell, how their rights may be broken and how they have to be defended", the head of League stated.
As infringement of women's rights Dzhemileva also considers polygamy. "Never at the Crimean Tatars there was a real polygamy. On the contrary, the Crimean Tatar women are mainly exemplary wives and the Crimean Tatar men — exemplary husbands who love and respect their wives. This problem is not typical for the Crimean Tatars. And it was taken out for discussion because nowadays many women in connection with moving remained without work, so, without the maintenance, therefore the society searches for ways how to solve this problem. One of them is that, according to the Quran, four women can be kept women of one man, however I think that this is unacceptable for us, the Crimean Tatar women, and they will never be gentle kept women".
Let's notice that while the senior generation of the Crimean Tatars defends the right to "secular" Islam, their young compatriots not only dress full hijab, but also demand legislatively to allow to be photographed with their hijab on for the passport.
