On April, 13th, in Kiev started the building of the first minaret first in the city - a tower from which the attendant of a mosque calls believers to prayer five times a day. However, in Kiev there will be no such calls, as it is promised by Muslims.

It is planned that the minaret's height will constitute about 27 meters, 7-8 meters above the dome of the mosque. The building is conducted at Ar-Rahma mosque.

As it is stated by "Segodnya" newspaper, Muslims will not awake the citizens of Kiev at the dawn with loud calls to prayer through dynamics as it happens in the Muslim countries. In the mosque they say that dynamics are not provided according to the project.

Minarets at the mosques are built practically in all countries of the Western Europe where Muslims live. However, in February, 2007 the ultra-right authorities of the Austrian federal land of Korintiya forbidden the building of mosques and minarets on its territory. In the majority of European countries Muslims are forbidden to call parishioners to prayers 5 times a day through dynamics. However, in some countries (for example, in Great Britain and Sweden), it is still allowed once in a week.

The most ancient minarets served as scout towers from which was carried out supervision over territories round the city. Then they were used for calling Muslims to prayer.
