16 years old Albert Akhtemov, a participant of the International Competition of Koran Readers from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), was back to the homeland on Sunday, July 7, 2012. It was the first time that the third year student of the Higher Hafiz School in Simferopol attended a high level event like this, and came back to Ukraine with strong determination to perfect his knowledge of the Holy Book and its tajuid.
The participants competed in nominations of “10 juzes”, “20 juzes”, and “30 juzes”. The latter was divided into sub-nominations “Knowledge of 30 juzes”, “Knowledge of 30 juzes and tafsir”, and “Knowledge of 30 juzes, tafsir and numbering of ayats”.
The Organizing Committee expected coming of 3 participants from each country, with reservation made for the Russian Federation: 3 participants from each republic. Mr. Atovullo Kosimov, press-secretary of the Islamic Center, expressed the regret about refusal of Muslims from Belarus to participate in this competition. The total number of persons coming to Dushanbe was 50.
This competition is a very serious and high level one, and participation in a competition like this per se is considered as a gain. The young native of Crimea could compare his knowledge and proficiency with other participants, and now he knows what should be put in focus when preparing to the next similar competition. May blessings of Most High be on him in attaining excellent results in this domain!
