Sighting of the moon marked the beginning of the Holy month of Ramadan. Around one million of the Ukrainian Muslims observed its arrival with the prayer and the fastbreaking iftar.

Ramadan is a month of prayer, fasting, and charity. During this period Muslims avoid from eating, drinking and smoking during the daytime. Thus they show their devotion, self-discipline and faith.

Though Ukraine has its native Muslim population, there are also a number of Muslim communities from other countries. Each of them brings some of their own culture, thus creating a remarkable atmosphere of Ramadhan in Ukraine

During the Holy month the Ukrainian Muslim communities invite guests from abroad to deliver lectures on Quran and the life of Prophet Mohamed

The Ukrainian society year by year is getting used to Ramadan traditions, says Ukrainian Olga Kopan.

Meanwhile Ramadan in Ukraine has its particularities. The daylight length in the country may climb up to 18 hours. Along with the high humidity of the climate it makes people feel the heat. However the Ukrainian Muslims say these conditions are strengthening the spirit

The Holy Month will be marked with charities and good deeds. Ramadan ends on August 19th with the Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations.
