At night on July 29-30, 2009, on the 80th day of the action of protest, the picket of Crimean Tatars was attacked near the Cabinet Ministers of Ukraine. QHA was reported about it by the representative of NGO ‘Avdet’, organizer and coordinator of many ‘fields of protest’ in Crimea Daniyal Amet.

According to D. Amet, about 30 men with an army hair-cutting surrounded the sleeping participants of the action, bonded their hands and made a massacre of the picket. Tents, placards and banners were broken, the property of the picketers as barrels that were using by picketers in order to make the authorities of the state hear them, were scattered and stolen. Picketers could not to define the instigators of the attack because the cars’ tags, by which thugs came, were bedaubed.

The law representatives, who had to protect the picket according to the Constitution of Ukraine, stayed watching indifferently on what was going on, without any attempt to stop the attack.

Government must find guilty

The First Deputy Chairman of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people, the President of the World Congress of the Crimean Tatars Refat Chubarov said, that law machinery immediately must investigate the attack to the picket of Crimean Tatars near the Cabinet Ministers of Ukraine.

According to him, if immediate action will not be taken by the law machinery to investigate against the night raid to the participants so it might be regarded as ‘the organization of terror against those who are peacefully seeking their legal rights’.

‘Government must protect the interests of its citizens and if it could not do it then it is interested in this or obliged to find guilty’ - R. Chubarov said.

It should be noted that the group has been protesting in front of the government building since mid-April, demanding a system for the gradual privatization of state-owned land in Crimea by the peninsula's indigenous Crimean Tatars.
