On July 2, at the VІІ International Summer School for Islamic Studies "Islam and Social Development" the discussion was about the book "The First Kurultai: From the First Founding Meeting to the National Parliament (1917-1918)". Its author, a well-known Ukrainian scientist, researcher at the Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies under the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, coordinator of the Tavria Humanitarian Platform, Andriy Ivanets, told the audience about the First Kurultai’s activities, stressing that its creation was the avatar of Crimean Tatars’ self-organization during the revolutionary transformations of 1917-1918.

After Andriy Ivanets’ presentation, a discussion took place during which the audience suggested launching the presentation of this research in the western regions of Ukraine, as well as translating the book into foreign languages, in particular, in Polish.

The scientist shared his impressions:

-   The audience was attentive; discussion of the topic was substantive, and for many attendees, it was the first acquaintance with the new research. Mariusz Marshevsky, a Polish scientist, suggested translating that into Polish. Activists from the western part of our country propose to launch the book presentation in their region, - says Andriy Ivanets.

The book contains a modern scientific focus on one of the key periods in the centuries-old history of the indigenous people of the Crimea, when they were undergoing a transformation from the state of the ethnic group to the modern ethno nation. The author used a number of previously unpublished sources, in particular the protocols of the Kurultai of December 1917, and also developed the concept of the Crimean Tatar revolution in his book.

Andriy Ivanets is a historian, publicist, public figure. He was a representative of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, head of the department on temporarily occupied territory under the Administration of the President of Ukraine. He popularizes the history of Crimea and Ukraine in whole. He is the author of the monograph on the Crimean issue in the UNR policy during the Directory period. Scientific interests are as follows: the history of wars and revolutions in the Crimea and Ukraine, ethno-national processes, the problem of territorial integrity restoration of the Ukrainian state.

Looking back, on July 1, the VII International Youth Summer School for Islamic Studies "Islam and Social Development: History and the Present times " began its workshop on the premises of Kyiv Islamic Cultural Center. This School was once again held by the Ukrainian Center for Islamic Studies with the assistance of the Civil Society Union “All-Ukrainian Association "Alraid". Among the participants are historians, philosophers and religious scholars not only from Ukraine but also from other countries of the world, including Poland. Turkey, Moldova; students.
