Majlis Chairman asks EU to take Crimean Tatars’ problems into account in cooperation with Ukraine

The Chairman of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Cemil has called the European Union on to plan and implement together with Ukraine special programmes for the rehabilitation and development of the Crimean Tatar people with immediate involvement of the Crimean Tatars.

Mr Cemil was speaking about it at the hearing in the European Parliament organized by the MEP Leonidas Donskis on March 17.

According to the Milli Majlis Chairman, the agenda of the EU - Ukraine association could include such priorities, as: the construction of dozens of schools and preschool educational institutions in places of compact settlement of the Crimean Tatars, the assistance provision to the Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University, which, particularly, realizes the process of teaching in the Crimean Tatar language, restoration of the unique cultural and historical objects of the Crimean Tatar cultural heritage, assistance in the development of small and medium-sized businesses, assistance in the repatriation of approximately 100 thousand of Crimean Tatars who could not leave the countries of Central Asia because of the economic and legal reasons.

Moreover, Cemil expressed his desire the European Parliament could approved a resolution on the Deportation against the Crimean Tatar people.

"October 23, 2008 the democratic forces of Ukraine approved a resolution with a great pleasure, which recognized the Holodomor (Famine) organized by the Soviet regime, a crime against humanity. Similar assessment of the European Parliament of genocide and the Deportation against Crimean Tatars after which forced life of almost half a century on a strange land was could be a significant contribution to the restoration of a truth and justice to the peoples" - Cemil adding that the resolution would help to improve interethnic atmosphere in Crimea said.
