700-year Jubilee of the oldest mosque in Eastern Europe is to be celebrated next year in Crimea, as announced at the Crimean Parliament working session. Besides, and international conference on history of Islam in Crimea is planned for 2014.

According to Enver Abdulraimov, the Crimean Parliament deputy, celebrating 700 anniversary is a good purpose for introducing Islam to the society and, of course, for rising the question of Crimean Tatar national and religious listed buildings current state.


As for the Khan Uzbek Mosque, Mr. Abdulraimov thinks it is a building of a great importance not only as a Muslim praying hall, but also has a great cultural and historical meaning, and this is the main reason its jubilee should be celebrated.


Ukrainian Post Service is going to print special jubilee envelopes where the mosque will be pictured, and the Crimean Parliament decided to place a picture of the mosque on a Stary Krym logo.


Besides, they proposed to issue a photo-album and a calendar with photographs of the mosque. During his speech at the plenary session, Enver Abdulraimov proposed to list this building as the one of great national meaning and importance.
