Muslim community of Skvortsovo village had several reasons for joy at the same day. First of all, Muslims celebrated the beginning of the Holy month of Ramadan, announced by Religious Administration of Muslims of Crimea in advance. Second, the village folk celebrated the new mosque. And third, all this happened on the day of Friday, which is a special day of the week for the followers of Islam.
More than 120 Crimean Tatar families live in Skvortsovo (historical name Eski Lez) according to the local authorities. It’s been since 1992 the local community received a land parcel for erecting a mosque, still they’ve struggled for years to find some money for the building process.
RAMC and Cultural Centre “Sozidanie” (“Creation”) came to their assistance, and it set the wheels in motion; the mosque was erected within a year, and named “Usman bin Avan”.
Representatives of RAMC, Crimean Tatar Mejlis and the Cultural Centre “Sozidanie” took part in the opening ceremony along with the local people. Mr.Esadullah Bairov, Deputy Mufti of Crimea, congratulated the local community upon the long-awaited mosque and called them to fill it with praying people. Mr.Ali Muhammad Taha, Head of “Sozidanie”, also congratulated the believers.
Mr.Lenmar Yunusov joined the congratulation and thanked the RAMC, “Sozidanie” and Muhammad Taha in person for fulfilling the dream of the village people.
After the ceremony was over, the first azan was performed and the first khutbah preached, followed by the first friday prayer.
