Islam in Ukraine's picture

One of the publications on the official website of the Islamic Cultural Center of Dnipropetrovsk begins with the words from the Holy Quran: “... And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude.”(Qur'an, 76: 8-9). And this is a very appropriate quote when it is talking about a good cause: The Muslim women of Dnipropetrovsk held a charity event “Feed the poor!” under "The best of people are those who are more helpful for people”.

The activists of the social organization of the Muslim women "Blagodіya" raised funds, cooked the food, and went to the places where the poor usually were, for the purpose to offer them a hot lunch.

As the head of the women's NGO "Blagodіya" under Dnipropetrovsk ICC  Anastasia Radovelyuk notes, that the moral teaching of Islam encourages the faithful Muslims to lend a helping hand to the needy people.

During the telephone conversation with our correspondent, imam of Dnipropetrovsk ICC, Devlikamov Edgar said that the activists realized that they wouldn’t be able to satiate all the hungry people in the administrative centre in spite of the best will in the world. So, the activists did their best to help at least some of those in need, but there were so many of them, that, it is issued, such social event to be held regularly:

“We are unable to solve the problem of poor and unsheltered citizens, as well as to satiate the hunger of every poor man,  but the women from the NGO "Blagodіya" decided to relieve at least one day of the life of our fellow countrymen, who are in need. The activists took the initiative by themselves, invested quite a large amount of personal funds for buying  food,  prepared food by themselves, but, to be honest, we were not ready for the agiotage which was caused by our coming. We could feed a few dozen of people. So, planning similar actions in the future, we will take into account the fact that, unfortunately, the number of hapless people has recently increased, and we will prepare more thoroughly, seek the additional opportunities of the sponsorships”- said the imam.
