A joyful occasion took place at the mosque of Kyiv Islamic Cultural Centre today: Bekir Suleimanov married the famous singer Jamala (Susana Jamaladinova) in the traditional Islamic religious ceremony of nikah. It was Mufti Said Ismagilov who married the couple. Video of the ceremony (in Ukrainian) can be found here.

The Mufti explained the husband-and-wife-to-be their mutual rights and responsibilities as family, and warned them that firm intention to keep and cherish this marriage during their whole lifetime (God willing) is the necessary condition to make this marriage valid.

He also explained to the gathering how the ceremony would be held, having stressed that the bride’s consent was traditionally asked trice, to let the Imam and everyone present assure that she was really willing to connect her life with that man. The groom’s consent was traditionally asked only once.

Before proclaiming the pair man and wife, the Mufti traditionally asked about mahr, the groom’s marriage gift for the bride. Jamala answered that she had already received it and was fully satisfied with it, but the pair chose not to go in details.

Besides the guests and the journalists, schoolchildren from Gymnasium “Our Future”, which is situated in the ICC building, came to congratulate the newly started family.

Team of Kyiv Islamic Cultural Centre offers their heartfelt congratulations to the newly weds and wished them a happy married life, God-fearing children, and that their family was the source of joy for both themselves and their close ones both in this life and in the Hereafter.
