Ukraine agrees to cooperate with Arab States League

Ukraine's acting Foreign Minister Volodymyr Khandohiy and Secretary General of the League of Arab States Amr Moussa have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Arab League Secretariat.

The signing ceremony took place in frames of the UN Security Council's 64th session in New York, news agency QHA reports refering to the MFA press-service.

The instrument embodies the parties' aspiration to develop traditional friendly relations in line with the United Nations Charter, priority directions of cooperation in political, economic and cultural areas.

The parties also focused on Ukraine-Arab League cooperation. Khandohiy and Moussa spoke for the necessity to ensure more efficient use of the existing political and economic potential of Ukraine's cooperation with the Arab League's 22 member-states.

Apart from this, in furtherance of the initiative of Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko about consolidation of international efforts in combating piracy, which was delivered at the UN General Assembly's 64th session, Khandohiy secured a preliminary backing of the Arab League Secretary General to hold relevant thematic debates of the UN General Assembly.
