Crimean and Kazan Tatars of Germany demand Ukraine and Russia to respect the Tatars’ rights for language and Homeland.
The Crimean and Kazan Tatars living in Germany have applied to the Government of the Federative Republic of Germany and inter-Parliamentary groups with their request to insist that Ukraine and Russia ratify the European Charter for regional or minority languages.
Particularly, the Crimean Tatars of Germany expressed their anxiety by the Ukrainian state’s neglect of the problems of the Crimean Tatar people at this stage, in particular, the situation of the Crimean Tatar language that is critically endangered, the land allocation to build their own homes, the absence of compensation payments to the Crimean Tatar people and other ethnic groups who were deported by the ethnic origin in 1944, etc.
'We, the Crimean and Kazan Tatars living in Germany, watch for development of ethnic policy in the Russian Federation and in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea with growing concern. We protest against the fact that the Tatars are deprived the rights to mother tongue and Motherland. Democracy in Russia and Ukraine is impossible, unless it would preserve their multiethnic heritage and respect the right to mother tongue and homeland' – is noted in their appeal.
