In the historical part of Kiev at the top of Shchekavitsa mountain took place the solemn opening of the mosque, Interfax-Ukraine informs.
The architect of the project of "Ar-Rahma" ("Mercy") mosque with a 27-meter minaret is the deserved architect of Ukraine, Alexander Komarovsky.
From the end of the 19th century in different areas of Kiev Muslims tried to build a mosque, but every time something became a hindrance. For the construction of "Ar-Rahma" mosque almost 20 years were needed: for the first time they started to talk about it in 1991, however, the building license was given out only in 2007. In this time all over Ukraine tens of Muslim cult buildings were erected, which main part - on the Crimean peninsula.
According to the messages in mass-media, on the plateau of Shchekavitsa mountain is also located Old believers' cemetery. However the authorities, despite the protests from Old Believers, allowed to build here the mosque as, according to the Ukrainian laws, if on a cemetery they don't bury within 50 years, it is subject to pulling down.
According to the head of the Religious Administration of Muslims of Ukraine, Ahmad Tamim, the mosque "is opened for all and at any time". Ahmad Tamim considers himself a habashite, a trend, which doctrine differs from the classical doctrine of Islam and in a number of Muslim states it is banned as a sect.
It should be noted that in Kiev Muslims have possibility to perform a prayer and other acts of worship in the mosque of the Islamic Social Cultural Center in Degtyarevskaya street, 25А, a mosque in Stetsenko street, 14, a mosque at the Tatar house in Nevskaya street, 10, and a number of premises for prayer in different areas of the capital.
