Nowadays printed periodical mass-media is the main source of display of racism, xenophobia, and other forms of intolerance. Such an opinion stated the members of the Information-Research Centre "Integration and development" on December, 23, at the press conference in Simferopol.

As it was noticed by the head of the IRC Oleg Smirnov and the members of the Research Centre Alexey Morozli and Irina Brunova-Kalisetskaya, the given conclusions were made by them based on the results of an initial stage of the project "Monitoring of Observance by Journalists of Ethical Principles of Tolerance and Intercultural Dialogue", informs Crimean.org, referring to QHA.

In particular, according to the project director Alexey Morozli, monitoring was carried out on purpose of assistance to the increasing of level of social responsibility of journalists, observance of professional and ethical standards of tolerance by them and intercultural dialogue by carrying out of monitoring and working out of concrete recommendations for journalists concerning observance of principles of tolerance.

"As a result of 2,5 months research of a number of the all-Ukrainian and Crimean printed mass-media by the centre it was revealed about 800 messages in which are present xenophobic phrases, or articles completely containing signs of racism and other forms of intolerance", declared A.Morozli.

According to him, most often are met politically incorrect forms of expression of biases, and also ethnocentricity of a great number of materials, where the leading positions occupied such newspapers as "Voice of Crimea", "Avdet" and "The Crimean Time". The greatest quantity of published xenophobic articles, in his opinion, is carried by the printed editions of the Inter-Regional Academy of Personnel Managementl (IAPM): "The Personnel-plus", "Ukrainian newspaper Plus" and "For Free Ukraine".

The participants of the press-conference also allocated the general tendencies of journalistic texts and their possible influence on perception of the reader: direct, own or quoted, negative, humiliating statements to ethnic, religious and ethno political generality, intimidation of the reader are the most often met to install the mistrustful relation to this or that ethnic group.

For example, the newspaper "Crimean time" writes the following about the Crimean Tatars, "For the Crimean Tatars Ukrainians are only "fellow travellers". As soon as the situation will change … the demographic balance will change... they "will follow another way" … for now it is too little to seriously pass from the so-called nonviolent protest actions to more radical actions" (October, 2, 2008).

INFORMATION. In 2002-2006 in Crimea by various social organizations and researchers was carried out pilot monitoring of materials of the Internet-media and of some printed mass-media. But realization of complex research of materials of printed mass-media became possible only due to support of this initiative in 2008 from the International Fund "Revival".
