The religious community of the Seventh Day Adventists is located in the building of the old mosque on Timiryazev Street in Feodosia (Kefe). The Crimean Moslems have been trying vainly to return their religious building for several years.

QHA is informed about this by adviser of the Mufti of Moslems of Crimea on ethnic relations Arsen Alchik.
“More then 6 years the Muftiyat is solving a problem; we have presented four historical and archival references for return of mosques that were in the city. None of these buildings are returned” – told A. Alchik.

According to him, given mosque is listed as Yagu Qapu Mahalle was built in XVII century and it remains in quite good state to the present. There are another three mosques in Feodosia.

In due time, the Feodosia city council gave its permission to sell the mosque’s building to some business company and then it was bought by the Seventh Day Adventists’ community.

The Mufti’s adviser stressed the city council did not have any right to sell this building because the religious objects cannot be privatized under the current legislation.

The Crimean government’s commission on return of property to the religious organizations and restorations of their rights has concluded the mosque’s building must be returned to the Moslems.

“The city council is charged to solve the issue of return of the mosque to the Moslems” – concluded A. Alchik.
