Deputies of the Simferopol City Council on purpose delay decision of question of the Cathedral mosque building in Yaltinskaya Street, 22. It was declared by the President of the World Congress of the Crimean Tatars, the first deputy of the chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean-Tatar People Refat Chubarov during a round table on a topic "Intercultural dialogue and regional safety of Crimea" on Friday, October, 30, in Akmesdzhit (Simferopol).
"Within last four years deputies of the City Council ignore the issue of allocation of the ground area under building of the Cathedral mosque – Dzhuma Dzhami. Thus they show disrespect for the Crimean Tatars. Therefore it is difficult to speak about intercultural dialogue in Crimea. To adjust dialogue of cultures it is necessary to adjust first of all dialogue between the authorities and the society", Chubarov emphasized.
He also added that several times he publicly addressed representatives of all faiths that they have reacted to a current situation.
Let us remind that on July 5, 2004, session of the Simferopol City Council took decision on coordination with the Spiritual Management of Muslims of Crimea the location and sizes of the land area for building of the Cathedral mosque in Yaltinskaya Street, 22. However, later deputies refused to allocate the land area on the specified address. On January 10, 2008, they coordinated the mosque location on a site along Lugovaya street, 6. On February 28, the Simferopol City Council recognized the land area around Yaltinskaya Street, 22, and a zone adjoining to, to be forest-park zone.
However, Muslims of Crimea expressed disagreement and declared that the Cathedral mosque will be built in Yaltinskaya Street.
Muslims collected more than 137 thousand pieces of a shell rock and monetary donations on acquisition of more 40 thousand pieces of stone for mosque building, and also started to build a fence on site perimeter.
Numerous judicial lawsuits between opponents until now still did not lead to any result. On December 11, 2008, the Supreme Court sent the issue on consideration in Court of the First Instance.
In the end of February, 2009, the People's Deputy of Ukraine Boris Deitch in his open letter called deputies of Simferopol and its mayor, Gennady Babenko, to reject political disagreements and to consider the problem on site allocation under building of the Cathedral mosque.
The Simferopol deputies promised to return to consideration of the issue after public hearings.
