The Spiritual Management of Muslims of Ukraine "Ummah" urges the public to treat Muslims of Ukraine as a part of Ukrainian community and not to kindle interethnic and inter-religious enmity.
As it is declared in the official statement, which text possesses "Islam in Ukraine", the SMMU "Ummah" is disturbed by events which took place in the AR of Crimea and were interpreted as flash of "Islamic extremism".
The statement reads, "Realizing importance of this question, we agree that there are separate Muslims professing radical ideas which in general contradict Islamic principles. With the beginning of presidential race presence of some not numerous radical groups became a problem of the state scale, frightening the public and provoking Islamophobia in Ukrainian multinational and multi-religious society which was always famous for its tolerance".
"We, Muslims of Ukraine, are very sorry that some politicians put their pre-election interests above interests of the state and society. Intimidation of people by threat of "Islamic extremism" proceeds. In the answer raises the wave of Islamophobia that was never before observed in Ukraine. 18 years of independence passed without big shocks and intra-confessional conflicts. Any displays of extremism harm first of all Muslims, as they cast shade on reputation of Muslims of Ukraine. Our common native land, Ukraine, in the hard period of crisis will suffer from such loud statements.
Extremism is not inherent in Muslims of Ukraine, and it should not be provoked artificially. Radical actions of some persons using Islamic slogans, are estimated by us as criminal. Islam is not all-permissiveness and arbitrariness, but a strict order, humanity and tolerance", is emphasized in the statement.
