On July, 15th, 2009, in the Security Service of Ukraine took place the round table "Deportation of the Crimean Tatars: Historical and Legal Estimations". To the event participated People's Deputies of Ukraine, representatives of the SSU, public organizations, mass media, historians, jurists.
As it informs the pres-service of the SSU, addressing to the participants of the round table, the vice-president of the Security Service of Ukraine Nikolay Gerasimenko noticed that on performance of the commission of the President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko, the Security Service of Ukraine with the help of the State Office of Public Prosecutor of Ukraine gathers materials, concerning illegal evictions in 1944 of the Crimean-Tatar people and other people living in territory of Crimea. Documents on crimes of a totalitarian regime in 1944 are gathered and studied, witnesses are recognized and interrogated. Taking into account the results, according to the requirements of the national legislation, the SSU and the State Office of Public Prosecutor will give legal estimation to illegal violent eviction of the people of Crimea.
The People's Deputy of Ukraine Mustafa Dzhemilev emphasized that the violent deportation in 1944 which was carried out by the Soviet repressive bodies, should be qualified as a genocide, as for two years in exile, by different calculations, was lost from 38 to 46 percent of the Crimean-Tatars.
The representative of the commission on studying of genocide of the Crimean Tatars at Medzhlis Gulnara Bekirova told about condition of studying of the archival materials concerning deportations, having emphasized importance of fixing of memoirs of live witnesses of the catastrophe of the Crimean-Tatars. Madam Bekirova informed the present that three volumes of the edition "As it was", containing memoirs of the people subjected to repression were already published.
One of the leaders of the Crimean-Tatar people, Refat Chubarov, emphasized the necessity of the reference to the governments of other countries, whose archives may contain documents on tragic events of May, 1944.
In his speech the representative of Ukraine in the international court of the United Nations Vladimir Vasilenko paid special attention to legal subtleties which should be noticed at bringing criminal case upon deportation of the Crimean-Tatar people.
Summing up the round table, the head of the department of archival maintenance of the SSU Vladimir Vyatrovich declared that the Security Service of Ukraine intends to address to special services of Russia and Uzbekistan with the request to open access to the materials, concerning deportation of the Crimean-Tatar people.
"All-round, unbiased, independent from the political juncture studying of violent deportation of the Crimean-Tatar people will help to improve essentially moral atmosphere on the Crimean peninsula.
This round table is the first step on the way of restoration of historical justice concerning the Crimean-Tatars", V.Vyatrovich summed up.
Let's remind that on performance of decrees of the President of Ukraine "About carrying out in 2009 of Day of memory of victims of political reprisals" and "About actions in connection with the 65th anniversary of deportation from Crimea the Crimean Tatars and other persons on a national ground" on May, 18th, 2009, in Simferopol took place the exit Board of the Security Service of Ukraine. In its session took part the leaders of the Crimean-Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev and Refat Chubarov, the Mufti of Muslims of Crimea Emirali Ablaev, the Constant Representative of the President of Ukraine in the AR of Crimea Leonid Zhunko.
Carrying out the commission of the President, the SSU declassified and transferred to the Crimean-Tatar community unique archival materials fabricated by the Soviet repressive bodies, cases concerning the Crimean-Tatar political organization "Milli Firka". On this case on charge in the so-called "bourgeois nationalism" in 1928, 63 persons - spiritual elite of the Crimean- Tatar people were subjected to repression.
