The Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, sent a letter to Mrs Irina Bokova wherein he reiterated his request to her to take action, in her capacity as UNESCO Director General, and ask Israel to revoke its government’s decision to annex Al-Haram Al-Ibrahimi and Bilal Ibn Rabah Mosque to the list of Jewish archaeological sites, according to QHA with a link to Palestinian News Agency.

The Director General also urged his counterpart in UNESCO to take immediate action to stop Israel’s continuous falsification of the Islamic history in Palestine.

In his letter, the Director General’s said: “Based on the functions of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), I reiterate my request to Your Excellency to take the necessary measures, within the framework of your ex officio powers, to pressure Israel which is a UNESCO Member into revoking its government’s decision to annex Al-Haram Al-Ibrahimi and Bilal Ibn Rabah Mosque to the list of Jewish archaeological sites, as it is at odds with international law”.

In an earlier letter to Mrs Bokova regarding both this subject and the Israeli occupation authorities’ ongoing excavations around Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Director General of ISESCO said: “Based on the interest the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) takes in the development of the situation of the Islamic sanctities in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, and within the framework of the responsibilities of UNESCO, which represents the cultural conscience of mankind, I have the honor to request Your Excellency to take the necessary measures to put pressure on Israel and ask its government to stop its aggressions in the periphery of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and prevent the extension of excavations in the said area. Indeed, such growing aggressions are in total contradiction with international law.”

“As the protection of Islamic and Christian sanctities in the occupied Al-Quds Al-Sharif is an international responsibility resting largely with UNESCO, I urge Your Excellency to take appropriate measures to stop these aggressions.”, the Director General concluded his letter.
