IslamOnline.net, one of the world’s leading Islamic portals, has launched its annual competition to spotlight people having served humanity and changed the lives of people in 2009.
“IOL Stars of Year” 2009/1430 competition serves as an opportunity for Muslims and non-Muslims to come together for the good of humanity,” says Kamal Badr, editor-in-chief of IOL English website.
“The competition is meant to bring together people who are driven to exceptional achievement in the course of serving the humanity, be they Muslims or non-Muslims,” says Badr.
“This is actually what characterizes this year competition, in the sense that it is not confined only to Muslims.”
Nominees are fielded by IOL audience in different fields such as volunteerism, education, Daw`ah, art, sport and human rights.
A special guide has been created with specified categories of achievement from which IOL audience will choose their nominees.
“This year, our audience will play the main role in selecting the nominees and voting to decide who will be IOL Stars of the Year,” says Rania Raga’i, Managing Editor of IOL Interactive Department which organizes the competition.
Winners will get a certificate from IOL in honor of their remarkable achievements in 2009/1430.
“The winning Stars will have the opportunity to interact with IOL audience in a series of live dialogues and radio shows to talk about their success stories and the challenges they have faced in their way to achieving success,” says Rasha Mohamed, Managing Editor of Art and Culture Section.
“This is between other things to honor the achievers.”
Non-Muslim Stars
A special corner has been established for non-Muslim figures who have effectively interacted with Muslim communities in 2009.
“Believing that Muslims are not living in seclusion and non-Muslims and Muslims are working hand in hand for the benefit of all humanity, ‘IOL Stars of the Year’ has created a special corner this year for non-Muslim figures who are known for their interest in Islam and Muslims and effectively interact with Muslim communities and interests on human bias,” says Raga’i.
The IOL competition is part of the Islamic portal’s efforts to interact with its global audience.
“It’s part of the IOL’s ongoing efforts to reach out to its audience to make them part and parcel of its global message,” says Badr.
